TUM researchers urge rethinking conservation goals amid climate-driven ecological change
A review article published by Technical University of Munich researchers in Nature Climate Change argues that climate change is creating new species communities worldwide at unprecedented speed, making traditional conservation approaches increasingly ineffective. The researchers, led by Prof. Tina Heger, state that ecological novelty—the emergence of species assemblages with no historical precedent—is becoming a defining feature of a rapidly changing world, and that conservation strategies should focus on supporting functioning ecosystems in future conditions rather than restoring historical ecosystem states.
