KIT selected as research hub for Germany's fusion reactor development
The German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space announced on July 29, 2026, that the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology will serve as one of three research hubs supporting Germany's planned fusion reactor construction. KIT researchers will focus on developing the fuel cycle, high-performance materials for fusion reactors, and essential reactor components including breeder blankets for tritium synthesis. The hub involves more than 30 partners, including magnetic and laser fusion companies such as Proxima Fusion, Gauss Fusion, Focused Energy, and Marvel Fusion, along with universities and industrial partners.
