Munich Institute of Biomedical Engineering marks 25th anniversary
The Munich Institute of Biomedical Engineering (MIBE) at the Technical University of Munich celebrated its 25th anniversary on October 26, 2026, bringing together over 80 professors from six TUM schools to conduct interdisciplinary research bridging medicine, engineering, and natural sciences. The institute has established research capabilities including the Munich Compact Light Source (MuCLS), a compact synchrotron installed in 2015 that uses high-brilliance X-rays to study cancer, osteoporosis, and lung diseases, the recently opened Center for Organoid Systems (COS) for disease research and personalized medicine, and the planned Center for Structural and Functional Connectomics (CSFC) for neuroconnectomics research.
