ETH Zurich to install IBM Quantum System Two at CSCS
ETH Zurich and IBM announced the deployment of an IBM Quantum System Two, powered by an IBM Quantum Nighthawk processor, at the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre in Lugano—Switzerland's first such system. The system is expected to enter operation by the end of the year and will be available to researchers from the ETH Domain, other Swiss universities, and selected Swiss companies to advance research in materials science, chemistry, and quantum computing. The three-year agreement is funded through an offset agreement between Lockheed Martin and armasuisse, Switzerland's Federal Office for Defence Procurement, with IBM responsible for installation, maintenance, and operation, while ETH Zurich and CSCS provide technical infrastructure and manage resource allocation through 2029.
