ESA procures four additional Galileo Second Generation satellites
The European Space Agency has extended contracts with Thales Alenia Space and Airbus Defence and Space to build four additional Galileo Second Generation satellites, bringing the fleet to 16 satellites total. The contracts were signed on 23 and 26 October, with the four new satellites scheduled for delivery in 2031 and launch thereafter. The satellites will be identical to the 12 already under development and equipped with fully digital navigation payloads, improved navigation antennas, inter-satellite link capacity, and advanced atomic clock configurations.
